Global scaling of precipitation extremes using near-surface air temperature and dew point temperature

چکیده
Abstract Global warming has altered the energy budget and water cycle processes of land–atmosphere system, which resulted in significant effects on precipitation extremes. Previous studies have identified a hook structure between near-surface temperature extremes, extremes increase with rises decline thereafter. However, underlying physical mechanisms this association remain poorly understood. In study, global-scale responses to air (SAT) dew point (DPT) were quantified using ERA5 reanalysis dataset. The results reveal scaling temperature, for both SAT DPT, over many regions worldwide. peak ( T pp ) ranges from 15 °C 25 °C, increasing as latitude decreased. is negative areas tropics, whereas that DPT almost always positive; suggests moisture supply main factor limiting at higher surface temperatures. rates incompatible Clausius–Clapeyron are associated various factors including duration, total column vapour, convective available potential energy, relative humidity.

Global Trends of Measured Surface Air Temperature
We analyze surface air temperature data from available meteorological stations with principal focus on the period 1880-1985. The temperature changes at midand high latitude stations separated by less than 1000 km are shown to be highly correlated; at low latitudes the correlation falls off more rapidly with distance for nearby stations. We combine the station data in a way which is designed to ...
متن کاملTemperature-pressure scaling for air-fluidized grains near jamming.
We present experiments on a monolayer of air-fluidized beads in which a jamming transition is approached by increasing pressure, increasing packing fraction, and decreasing kinetic energy. This is accomplished, along with a noninvasive measurement of pressure, by tilting the system and examining behavior versus depth. We construct an equation of state and analyze relaxation time versus effectiv...
متن کاملNear-Surface Air Temperature Retrieval Derived from AMSU-A and Sea Surface Temperature Observations
A 10-m air temperature (Ta) retrieval using Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit A (AMSU-A) and satellite-derived sea surface temperature (Ts) observations is presented. The multivariable linear regression retrieval uses AMSU-A brightness temperatures from the 52.8and 53.6-GHz channels and satellite-derived daily sea surface temperatures to determine Ta. A regression error of 0.838C using 841 match...
متن کاملDetectability of anthropogenic changes in annual temperature and precipitation extremes
This paper reports on a study of temperature and precipitation indices that may be suitable for the early detection of anthropogenic change in climatic extremes. Anthropogenic changes in daily minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation over land simulated with two different atmosphere-ocean general circulation models are analyzed. The use of data from two models helps to assess which cha...
متن کاملEvaluation of MODIS Land Surface Temperature Data to Estimate Near-Surface Air Temperature in Northeast China
Air temperature (Tair) near the ground surface is a fundamental descriptor of terrestrial environment conditions and one of the most widely used climatic variables in global change studies. The main objective of this study was to explore the possibility of retrieving high-resolution Tair from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) land surface temperature (LST) products, cove...
